On May 20, 2020, the society of petrophysicists and well log analysts (SPWLA) announced the annual honor list in 2020, honoring experts and scholars who have made remarkable achievements in the field of petrophysics and geophysical logging in the world. Two well-known Chinese scholars won the honor during this acitivity, Professor Xiao Lizhi from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) won the meritorious technical achievement award, and Professor Wang Hua from University of Electronic Science and technology won the meritorious service award.

  Professor Xiao Lizhi is an expert in petroleum geophysical logging and a pioneer in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance logging in China. He has made systematic innovations in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and its application in the downhole extreme environment. At present, he is the executive director of China Geophysics Society, member of spectrum Professional Committee of China Physics Society, director of Analytical Instrument Branch of China instrumentation society, President of EAGE China branch, member of SEG China Steering Committee, executive director of international mrpm and SRMR.

  Professor Wang Hua is a winner of the 100-talent plan of University of Electronic Science and technology. He is mainly engaged in the research of wellbore detection technology, induced earthquake monitoring technology and quantitative characterization of rock micro pores. He co-established the world's first artificial intelligence journal in Geosciences subject. Currently, he is the chairman of Southwest China branch SPWLA.

  The best paper award of SPWLA in 2019 was awarded by the team of Professor Geoge Hirasaki from Rice University. NMR evaluation of light-hydrocarbon composition, pore-size and tortuosity in organic-rich chalks.

SPWLA was founded in 1959 and headquartered in Houston, USA. It is a prominent international academic organization in the field of petroleum geophysical logging.
